In an attempt to combat the extreme boredom of being at work with my supervisor out for they day I have made the discovery that I am capable of posting blogs on the work computer. I find this most surprising because so many sites, less time consuming sites, are blocked by the 'NESL Nanny'. Huh. I have sorta forgot about my blog to be honest. This summer has passed without many thoughts given to actually recording it's events. This summer has stretched me and been quite trying, and no one likes to record those kinds of events.
I have been reading a lot this summer. I enjoy reading about religion and one pattern that emerges in different religions is the practice of silence. This being the case I decided that this past week I should try to experience silence to some extent. So, I have given up listening to music on my drive to and from work. This is a 45 minute drive for me. Now I have 90 minutes every day of complete silence. To be honest I at first found the silence very uncomfortable. It forced me to think. Not that I don't think enough as it is, but I can always find something to interupt my thoughts right when they get painful, usually that interupption is music. It is my comfort, my escape. We should not dwell in the past, but this practice has taught me that it is good to reflect on the past and face the issues that arose and to deal with them. Sometimes the only way to do this is to experience an uninterupted silence. There is a difference between dealing and dwelling. Deal with your past, but don't dwell on it. We were not meant to spend every moment in silence. Let there be music and dancing!!
In other news I started the move into my apartment in Pittsburgh. It has the charm of an old friend. I know this coming year is going to be an exciting one. Mostly because I am fully prepared to make it that way. I will miss the city of London, but I will give Pittsburgh the benefit of the doubt.
